A lonely box with no cycles in sight. On the way back home from my mother’s place. It’s one of the things that I always see.
Singapore started having public bikes to use. So all you need is the app and you can unlock the bikes that are normally placed here in these boxes to travel to your next destination. I love that initiative actually.
Unfortunately it didn’t last long becos’ the companies couldn’t make it profitable. Plus there were too many damaged bikes and people dumping them to the side. Then there’s some who brings it home too. I guess they really wanted a bike of their own. So now these boxes are empty.
As of 7/11/20, there’s still one company operating it’s brand of bikes. We’ll see how that goes.
^^Update to today, the public bikes are still available and running. So far two companies are running this: HelloRide and Anywheel. Singaporeans are using it a lot more now to get around from their homes to the nearest train station for example which is within 5-10 minutes distance. Or cycle to their workplace from the closest bus stop or train. I’m glad this initiative is still around and surviving.
