Kent Ridge Park – 14/11/20

Sometimes all you need is to look up and just notice things a little more to see something beautiful or magical. And I think this was one moment where the trees felt like they were looking down on me and behind them were the sky and clouds. I love the sky here and how blue it was. I can only imagine what the trees are saying to each other here.

I remember sitting down on one of the benches there and writing on my journal. Just taking a moment to sit down and think. Which is so hard to do nowadays. Decided to look around me and looked up. The trees were swaying softly with the blue background of the skies. It was damn peaceful. I wished I had a picnic mat. I wanted something with me so I could just lay down. Then I could spend time looking at the trees and sky.

I read about this phenomenon called “Crown Shyness”. Basically tree branches shying away from each other to avoid touching. This occurs between neighboring trees and even branches within the same tree. Scientist so far can only theorize why this happens. One of which is to avoid damaging the branches and leaves as this will affect it’s growth.

Another reason being to allow even light distribution and rainfall to reach the lower branches and soil. Even trees practice social distancing!

I have seen a few Tik Tok videos. They showed people talking to trees and seeing them respond by their movement. Even though there’s no wind that is swaying the leaves. Which is fascinating to see really. I believe trees are alive. They communicate with each other in their own way. If we say hello to trees, perhaps they may respond? We just need to take some time to be under a tree and chill together.

If I even survive the ants and insects that will flock to my hands, feet and face that is… probably with some squeals and screaming added as well. Singapore weather ain’t that friendly for this sort of activities. So we’ll see!
